THE SABAH State Cabinet Members is asked to declare publicly their individual assets in order to demonstrate their creditability, accountability and transparency towards clean and honest governance in Sabah. It is of known fact that politicians usually got rich fast when they are in power.

The Sabah DAP State Advisor cum KK MP Hiew King Cheu today made the call by saying that it is only right for them in the Sabah State Cabinet to make such public declaration to show that they are clean and did not involve in any unruly act and abuse of power to harness wealth. Many people had expressed their opinions that this move is essential to ensure a good clean and uncorrupt governance of the state.
MP Hiew further elaborated that the declaration of individual assets must be an audited statement of account by an independent public certified auditor to check and certify the correctness of the assets declared.

This had been carried out by the Penang State Government and each and every state cabinet member had made their declaration publicly without any problem, and of course these are certified declarations done through public auditors.

In Sabah the Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman should lead his cabinet to make such declaration before the next general election and it is timely to declare themselves to the people of Sabah.

The people have the right to know whether their elected representatives are creditable, accountable and transparent or not. This is the time for the handing out of report cards and this is the easiest way of showing and demonstrating their standing that whether they have not been corrupted and cheating the people.

In Sabah, we are in urgent need of a group of new, clean and straight politician to run the state. They must practice clean politic and without any though and do’s connected to self-benefits and personal gains.

The elected representatives are actually the employees of the people, and they are also classified as “Public Servants”. They received their pay and allowances from the people, and their duty is to serve the people well.

By right they are not to be high and mighty, and not to be called “The Honorable” or “Yang Berhomat”! This is wrong in the way, and it had been twisted to make the people feeling low and voiceless.

KK MP Hiew said that CM Datuk Musa should declare his assets and let the people know his total updated assets value. He should have no problem in making the said declaration because he had declared the same when he first became the Sabah Chief Minister in 2004. His previous declaration, if not remembered wrong, was around RM700 million.
